How Important Is Flexibility In Strength Training

It is widely understood that stretching exercises are important for maintaining flexibility and range of motion in our joints. However, not everyone realizes how important flexibility is for people who strength train.

When we strength train, we put our muscles through a lot of stress and strain. This can lead to tightness and stiffness, particularly if we don't focus on stretching and recovery.

While it may seem counterintuitive to stretch before or after lifting weights, doing so can actually improve your performance. That's because when your muscles are loose and relaxed, they can generate more force.

Think about it this way: A rubber band is more likely to snap if its taut than if it's relaxed. The same is true for your muscles.

If you're not flexible, you may find that your lifting form suffers and you're more likely to get injured. This is why many strength coaches recommend stretching as part of a well-rounded training program.

So, how important is flexibility in strength training? While there's no definitive answer, it's clear that stretching can be beneficial for both your performance and your safety. If you're not flexible, make an effort to add some stretching exercises to your routine. Your body will thank you for it!
